Moderate-advanced international cinema poll?
Dersu Uzala (Kurosawa) 1975, Soviet Union/Japan vs. Close Up (Kiarostami) 1990, Iran
The Gospel According to St. Matthew (Pasolini) 1964, Italy vs. Diary of a Country Priest (Bresson) 1951, France
Money (Bresson) 1983, France/Switzerland vs. Nostalghia (Tarkovsky) 1983, Soviet Union
Cries and Whispers (Bergman) 1972, Sweden vs. Ashes and Diamonds (Wajda) 1958, Poland
Celine and Julie Go Boating (Rivette) 1974, France vs. Jeanne Dielman (Akerman) 1975, Belgium/France
Woman in the Dunes (Teshigahara) 1964, Japan vs. Nazarin (Buñuel) 1959, Mexico
Bresson is a very bad director? Is that why every camera movement creates an artificial atmosphere, or why his characters look to the ground before they speak to show acceptance of their place in the universe? I must say, this is quite perplexing.. Ashes and Diamonds is.. Boring!?!? Akerman created a fortress of solitude in her film! At least you have seen these films, I suppose..
Kurosawa - Kiarostami is an overrated hack
Pasolini - Bresson is a very bad director
Tarkovsky - see above
Bergman - Ashes and Diamonds is boring
Akerman - Magic Spells? get a grip
Bunuel - He is the master
